Today we can announce that Raging Bull (Halbro Quality Sportswear) will not only provide training gear and additional clothing for the 20/20 challenge but as importantly they will DONATE a full football kit too...
I had a fantastic meeting with Carl Richards, Sales Manager, based in Horwich Bolton.
After discussing what both myself and Gav wanted to do and the ethos around the 20/20, he had agreed to help us not only to supply a junior football team with kit but to make sure we look the part not only with training etc but also with casual clothing as well.
I was totally floored by this generous offer and actually had a lump in my throat as this was an amazing gesture from Carl.
I explained that we also wanted to give something back to them and have asked if any of their employees know of someone who may want our help with equipment etc and support them.
The story of the football team, by a wee lad called Gavin...
It was a cold Saturday morning at 8am and I was a pale skinned chubby 11 year old boy turning up to the hallowed training ground of the local football team that everyone wanted to play for, Cornard Dynamoes. New shin pads and new boots were donned and I was introduced to our manager and the already formidable group of lads that formed the under 12s team.
I didn't even know what position I should be playing in, after all, doesn't every kid run around the school playing fields like the newest most popular striker in the world? Well it was fairly early on that I would learn my position. The exercise was simple, the manager was to kick the ball from the halfway line toward us on the edge of the box, and all we had to do was clear it!
So it got to my turn, the ball rolled in, and boom I sent it into orbit! That's it then, a central defender with clearing skills like that. So for the next few years I played with a team that would regularly put more than 10 goals past its opponents and sometimes up to 30! How many did I score? 7 in total. 6 own goals and 1 that bounced off my head from a corner and went in.
We played nemesis teams like Stow Falcons and Hadleigh, won many trophies and cups and most of all set the foundations of my childhood memories, where not only was I taught how to play, but how to respect and be proud of what we were. Nearly 30 years on and I still love my first club, and still hold Perry Groves and Stuart Slater as our local playing legends
We were always lucky and always had someone somewhere to help give time and sponsorship to the club, and I always wanted to one day be a part of supporting what is now a very well served and attended club. All my friends now have their lads playing, and Mark Ingram who dedicates so much time to the club spoke with me about how the team really could do with new training tops as the lads are growing so fast.
So, through 20/20 and the amazing help from Raging Bull, we are proud to say we are going to provide the full squad of lads with new training tops with emblems and 20/20 sponsorship to see them through the next few years. For me this is something I have always wanted to do to help repay a club which I owe so much to.
Thank you Cornard Dynamoes and we look forward to seeing the teams out on Monday 28th August for the 20th day and homecoming.
